Start with the current player count: for many communities, 20–500 players provide an active environment without overcrowding. For players in Russia and the CIS, a ping below 100 ms is usually a comfortable benchmark. Check your client version; common server versions include 1.21.x, 1.20.x, 1.16.5 and 1.12.2. Then check the game mode (Survival, Creative, SkyBlock, Anarchy, PVP or Mini-games), platform (Java Edition, Bedrock Edition or crossplay) and anti-cheat protection, such as NCP, Matrix or Vulcan. To join, filter by region, mode, version and platform, compare player counts, ping and reviews, then copy the IP from the server listing and add the address in Minecraft.
