What does spark do?

spark is a Minecraft server profiler to search for the causes of TPS drawdowns, lags and increased resource consumption.

Finding the cause of the lags

When the TPS drops, it is pointless to remove plugins at random. spark collects profiles of server operation and shows which operations take up CPU time. It is possible to analyze individual periods of load, for example, the moment of mass loading of chunks or the start of automatic farms.

How to read the results

A high proportion of time in one method does not always mean a mistake: first compare the profile to the actual game situation and tick time. Peak values from a single measurement do not prove a persistent problem. The output usually requires several measurements when compared online. After publishing the report, make sure it doesn’t reveal the sensitive server configuration.

Profile before optimization

Capture data during a typical peak online moment where players are actively moving around the world and using farms. Compare the profile to the measurement on an almost empty server. This will help to separate the fixed costs from the actions of specific players. Change one setting and remove a new profile after each significant fix.
