Mineplex Tests Smart Match Launch Timers
Mineplex has started a pre-game countdown experiment: lobbyists with minimal participants will wait longer, and with fast filling, the timer will shorten, and there are also notifications of player sets in the hubs.
Mineplex has begun testing a new principle for running game lobbying, which is to make waiting more flexible: if there is only a minimum number of players in the room, the match does not start immediately, but gets a little extra time to fill.
The duration of the wait depends on the particular game. For longer matches, including The Bridges and Survival Games, the countdown is increased more: in such modes, the full squad is especially important, since one game can take more than ten minutes. In fast games, the adjustment will be almost imperceptible.
The new mechanism does not mean that the filled lobby will have to wait longer. Each player who joins reduces the remaining time. When there are enough participants, the countdown immediately goes to ten seconds. Full lobbies are now launching faster than before.
During the wait, players will see in the lobby how many participants it takes for the match to start in ten seconds. When the server is almost full, the timer also speeds up. The developers separately added countdown protection when one of the players exits – a situation that is especially annoying after a long wait for the start.
Another part of the experiment concerns the Mineplex hubs. There will be reports of matches that will start soon, as well as games that are waiting for new players. By clicking on such a notification, you can immediately go to the desired lobby. So far, this feature is only available for four games.
The developers emphasize that the test is not the final solution. They will monitor whether lobbying is better filled and whether players are staying in matches, as well as collecting community feedback. As a result, the rules can be changed or completely abolished. Players are asked to evaluate whether the extended countdowns have become more useful, whether messages in the hubs are too intrusive and for which games such notifications are needed.
