Minecraft unveils ice caves and frozen zombies
On Minecraft, LIVE Mojang showed ice caves – a new underground biome for cold areas. In the next Game Drop, players will meet icicles, glowing crystals, deposits of ice and calcite, as well as dangerous frozen zombies.

Mojang announced a new underground biome, icy caves, for Minecraft, during the latest Minecraft LIVE, which is dedicated to the future of Game Drop. The new zone will continue to expand the exploration of the Nether, to search for it under the cold biomes of the ordinary world.
Ice caves will be markedly different from the usual dungeons. They will be filled with frozen surfaces, large accumulations of ice and calcite, as well as new natural formations. Icicles will grow from the ceilings, and ice crystals will grow from the ground. Crystals emit soft light and will become a new natural source of illumination during the descent into the ground.
Along with the biome, a new threat will appear - frozen zombies. Their attacks impose a freezing effect on the player, so the usual meeting with the undead in the cave will become more dangerous. Some of these mobs will be able to throw ice balls: they cause damage and throw away the target.
Ordinary zombies can become frozen if they are in loose snow. This adds another risk in cold regions and connects the new adversary to the already existing mechanics of the world. Players exploring the caves will have to consider not only standard mobs and lack of light, but also attacks that interfere with movement.
Ice Caves will be included in the next Game Drop for Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. The final name of the update and the exact release date of Mojang has not yet been disclosed. Before the full release, new features are planned to be released for testing in preliminary versions.
The new biome will be another separate type of underground environment, along with the caves already added. Ice, calcite, glowing crystals and frozen zombies should make forays under cold biomes more recognizable and demanding to prepare.
